Ecotourism In Spain

Tourism is an industry that is actually largest in the world. It is a major player in the world’s economy and so many countries tend to pay a lot of attention to the industry as it adds a lot of value to their revenues. Spain is a country that is among the highest visited in the world. It developed as a tourism destination due to the sand and sun. It is a country that experiences fair weather throughout and so many people from the colder regions prefer this destination. It is more convenient for other EU members due to the location as well as the paperwork involved.

Eco tourism is basically the kind of tourism that is able to help in environmental conservation. Over exploitation of natural resources by man has led to some areas that had been popular previously to be turned into mere wastelands. Exploration of nature tours are very popular and have been in existence for quite a long time. Spain is a country that provides ecotourism.

It is a sector of tourism in Spain that has been constantly been growing more popular since the 1990’s. Many people include eco tours in their packages so as to increase their personal environmental awareness.

Eco tourism in Spain is not at all rigid as it involves a lot of varied activities that one may engage in. Popular subjects include plants, birds and butterflies. In Spain, the birds include booted eagle, little bustard, and Eleonora’s falcon. The butterflies include clouded yellow, Camberwell beauty, and pasha while plants are great varieties of orchids, Dog’s Tooth Violet, as well as yellow rattle. The best time for this kind of tours is spring-fall.

To enable and facilitate natural preservation, Spain found it necessary to put up national parks. This was a way of dedicating some lands to maintaining the natural uniqueness as well as the resources. 4% of the land in Spain is used to home national parks today so these are the places that an ecologically conscious person should never miss. The largest park in Spain is Los Picos de Europa that is in Asturias. Parks in Spain entail volcanic formations, mountains, wetlands and other naturally occurring features.

Spain follows the agenda set forth by the UN with regard to environmental preservation. Some of the issues addressed are recycling, waste reduction, water protection, reuse of residues as well as increasing awareness on the environment.

The most popular location for ecotourism is Lanzorote in the Canary Islands.  Many regions in Spain have environment committees thus making Spain the ultimate place to experience this kind of tourism at its best.

The Amazing Cave Attractions of Altamira

There is no other place like Altamira which may not be very well known for its holiday resorts but it is extremely famous for one item; its cave images that are purportedly ancient. One would need to book a viewing slot as far as 3 years as only a limited number of viewers are allowed inside the cave every day.

These ancient cave paintings are most intriguing with their unique forms and colors. They are located near Cantabria which lies approximately 30 km away from Santander. Those who cannot wait so long for a view of the original pieces may choose a short cut of viewing the high quality replicas that have been made available in certain towns and cities.

Discovery

The ancient caves were accidentally discovered by a person called Modesto Cubillas in the year 1868 when he was on a hunt. Proper excavation of the caves happened only in 1875 when the daughter of a Santander nobleman found the cave and its paintings.

Archeological excavations brought the intriguing paintings to light with public viewing. However, some doubt arose concerning the cave paintings’ authenticity because the pieces seemed to be in excellent quality. More research throughout the 19th century confirmed their authenticity with more ancient artifacts discovered around the place. Thus, the fame of the Altamira cave paintings with the ancient Magdalénian culture spread rapidly over Europe.

Cave paintings

The cave paintings consist of specific and limited images such as bison, wild boars, hinds, and horses with some anthropomorphus figures representing humans but bearing animal heads. There were hand prints with outlined images finely drawn in black and red colors with some in ochre.

The images were drawn on the rough cave walls with a scale and proper texture to bring forth the live dynamism in each piece. The symbols used in these images on the cave walls indicated a certain civilization that existed during the Aurignacian period as well as the Solutrean period which was confirmed by other evidences found; these include stone materials and various organic remains.

To preserve these intriguing wall paintings, preservation efforts have been applied to limit the number of viewers per week as an over abundance of carbon dioxide gas discharged by humans may damage the images.

Replicas

To assist the public in viewing the cave paintings, a cave replica is constructed in a museum with a special research and development laboratory. Now, more visitors enjoy the cave paintings easily.

The replica cave museum has welcomed more than 200,000 visitors since its official opening in 2001. It is considered a prehistoric art museum with research facilities and restoration works to the original cave as part of the preservation efforts.

Albatera Village

The Vega Baja region in the Alicante province holds a lot of quaint villages such as Albatera which are worthy to be explored. Although Albatera has only 9,000 residents who speak mostly Spanish with a bit of Catalan, this quaint village can be easily reached via some of Spain’s larger airports such as Alicante and Murcia.

Offerings

The village of Albatera welcomes all visitors to enjoy many of the beautiful natural landscapes found around it; from River Segura to Sierra de Crevillent. The pleasantly moderate Mediterranean weather puts Albatera on the map for an excellent summer holiday all year long. This idyllic village is considered a tourist haven with the myriad of natural landscapes, historical sights and variety of holiday activities which one can indulge in.

Albatera became part of Alicante in 1833 to flourish in agriculture with the strong and constant support of River Segura. Hence, the rich and fertile land never fails to produce abundant crops through the available irrigation. Albatera also indulged in pig farming which has blossomed into a mature industry today to contribute attractively to the village’s economy.

Today, a lot of commerce and a variety of industries have overtaken many of the village’s traditional activities. Canals as well as irrigation channels still form the village’s agricultural network to produce the best of vegetables, dates and citrus fruits in the region.

The lifestyle in Albatera is simple but exciting. There is always some celebration happening in Albatera such as the July St. James fiesta with bullfights and dancing. A lot of merry making happens at every fiesta celebration in Albatera.

Attractive Historical findings

Albatera may be a medium sized village but it is full of surprises. Many interesting historical artifacts have been found in Albatera to establish the presence of pre-historic civilizations that stretch to 3 BC. This reflects the time of the Roman rule and influence as they set up irrigation channels for the agricultural activities.

The Arabs came during the 5th century to impact Albatera with a lot of Moorish architecture until the Christian Reconquista took back Albatera and its surrounding region in 1266. In1296, the kingdom of Crevillente, Cos and Albatera was formed.

Whitewashed homes flourished until today in this village of Albatera with beautiful lush palm trees along its streets. There is a quaint 1729 parochial church standing in the middle of the town plaza in dedication to apostle Santiago. Its ornately decorated baroque doorway is specially carved in stone. An ancient casino exists with the town hall near the plaza.
